What is the History of the Port St. Lucie Police Department?

The PSLPD has seen significant changes since its inception. John Bolduc, who served as the police chief for more than 10 years since August 2012, joined the department in 1994. At the time, what is now Tradition’s thriving residential and commercial district was a ranch that he patrolled as a state wildlife officer.

In April 2023, with Bolduc’s retirement, Richard Del Toro, one of the two assistant chiefs, became the acting chief, taking command of the 371-person department, including 290 sworn officers, 68 civilians, and 13 animal control specialists. The growth and transformation of the PSLPD reflect the city’s rapid development.

How Does the Port St. Lucie Police Department Serve the Area?

According to Bolduc, the community holds a high level of respect and admiration for the department, which has facilitated its law enforcement efforts. They show a particular concern for vulnerable individuals, as demonstrated by their efforts to find missing persons and their swift response to emergency situations.
